The key art was created from composited NASA images of Jupiter and its moon Io. The Discovery One spacecraft was taken from a still from the film, and the star background and the volcanic plumes on Io's surface were created in Photoshop. The monolith, including the stars, were created entirely in Photoshop.
The key art was created primarily for the DVD clamshell packaging. It was also used by the studio for other purposes for promoting the release of the film on DVD. The design work also included a 4 page insert booklet, as well as the DVD clamshell packaging covers.
The title art was created digitally, and was a new design for the DVD release of the film. It was created in Adobe Illustrator.
